We didn’t grow up on Pulau Brani, but our Nenek carried the island with her—in stories told over dinner, in memories scented with sea breeze and wooden verandas. She spoke of women without names: a queen who fought, a mother who built, a girl who dreamed. Later, we found them in books and archives: leaders, warriors, witnesses to history.
